Today, we received our iLEAP test scores for our Third Graders. The iLEAP is the state assessment that measures our students' mastery of Math, Science, Social Studies, and English/Language Arts skills. Mentally, all I could think of was the statements that were made at the beginning of the year stating, "We must see double digit gains." Now I know that we are to be positiv, but there was a little doubt in the back of my mind.
As we sat in her office listening to our scores being recited and analyzed the data, we were delighted to here that there WAS substantial growth of our third graders this year when compared to last year's. Our third graders made a 10% gain in Math, a 26% gain in Math, a 13% gain in Social Studies, and a 14% gain in Science. It was all but evident that this success was a result of the team work that established throughout our grade level when it came to planning and sharing materials.
I must say that as an educator it has been imperative that the attitude of "I" is eliminated. When the scores come in, it's nice to know that your class did well, but it feels even better when your grade level is recognized for your hard work.
